Disability Benefits Archives

How is it decided whether a person can get SSD benefits?

An Oklahoman who is suffering from a disability, injury, condition or illness and believes he or she can get Social Security disability benefits must understand that it is not a simple matter of applying and being approved. There are steps to the process that must be followed. The Social Security Administration makes its decision based on five steps to determine if the person is disabled. It is also important to remember that if the claim is denied for any reason, there are options available to appeal the case.

Can an attorney speed up a disability appeal?

As pervious posts on this blog have mentioned, many if not most applications for Social Security disability benefits get denied at the initial stages. While sometimes the involvement of a qualified disability benefits attorney can help get an application approved at the outset, in many cases, the reality is that an applicant for benefits is just going to be denied social security and will have to plan on going through an "appeal," or, more precisely, a review hearing before an administrative law judge.

If I get hurt at work, can I get Social Security disability?

Many people in Oklahoma and, for that matter, throughout the country wind up unable to do their jobs or engage in any employment because they get hurt in a work accident. One question that may come to the mind of these people is whether they can draw disability benefits from the Social Security Administration, as there is a common impression that those benefits are for people who do not work because they never could or had some sort of medical issues not directly related to work.
